A refreshing drink and a quicker than quick snack.

In summer what can be sweeter than a nice, long, cold glass of watermelon juice. I can think of other things but for now we will settle for the recipe at hand. A watermelon lemon cooler. There is really no great mystery to the ingredients it has watermelon, lemon, sugar and a few ice cubes but on that hot day when the sun has sucked you dry this works wonders. To make this super easy – peasy drink all you need to do is take

Watermelon cubes – 2 cups

Lemon juice from half a lemon

Sugar – as per your taste requirements

Ice cubes – as many as you like.

And just blend the watermelon, lemon juice, and sugar. Add some ice cubes and pour your drink its good to go. So simple naa.

But to show I am not a lazy bum and getting away with such an easy post let me give you a recipe for what is a life saver of a snack.  Stuck for something to make when hunger pangs hit the kids (or the big kid in you). Friends drop in and say they are “Absoluutely starving” need something that can be prepared in minutes. No joke potato straws to the rescue.

This resulted from a failed attempt to make potato baskets but it is yummy trust me. Things needed

Potato – 1-2 (washed, peeled, and grated)

Oil – for deep frying

Chaat masala – 1 tsp (or how much ever you require)

Chilly powder – ½ tsp (optional)

I guess by now you can imagine how the rest of the recipe goes.

Heat a kadai with oil.  Take the grated potato and squeeze out by hand as much of water as possible.  Drop them into the hot oil in batches. Deep fry till golden brown. Drain on your kitchen towel. What is the point Anisha you ask? It is, all said and done potato deep fried in oil think of the calories. Ah yes calories yes but once in a while it doesn’t hurt. After the potato cools a little and is dry to the touch add chaat masala and chilly powder. I don’t add chilly powder but if you like your snacks spicy then please go ahead. Great for that evening snack and even as an accompaniment for curd rice.

It can be garnished by adding fried curry leaves (think how gorgeous the color and flavor will be). The reason I didn’t add it is because I didn’t think of  it then. So my dear readers do go ahead and try both the recipes I am sure you will love them.
